Learning of the Year.Positive Feedback as Accelerator🚀
Approximately two weeks ago, I received feedback like never before: a real accelerator for my work.
💬What was different from all the feedback I had received before? It is bursting with positivity, and I could read in every word that the writers truly want to elevate my – in this case – one-pager to a higher professional level. This demonstrated how positive feedback can be an accelerator for achieving growth and improvement, making it a transformative experience for me.
💭Let’s start at the beginning: What did the person do to make it so valuable for me?
🔬My analysis:
- Actually, the person really read my one-pager several times and put a lot of thought into the feedback.
- It is concise, directly written, and in short, clear sentences.
- The areas to improve are mentioned with a keyword and integrated into the proposals on how to improve the sentence.
- The tonality is friendly, supportive and encouraging, exactly what a positive feedback accelerator should be.
- In total, it only consists of 179 English words, which is roughly half a page.
🚀The accelerator for me:
- Due to my rework, I read the feedback several times to make sure to implement and integrate all proposals for improvement.
- Every time I opened the document, I was happy to do so because I really felt appreciated and valued for the work I put into the initial document.
💡My new framework for giving feedback is now the following:
- Read the documents provided thoroughly more than once, even when time is in short supply.
- Briefly mention the challenges, yet put more focus/words on the solutions and improvement.
- Write in a friendly tonality that encourages a person.
- Use precise wording.
- Keep it as short as possible; write in clear, short sentences.
